Our doctors have extensive experience in diagnosing, treating, and managing many medical eye conditions, including:
This can be as mild as dryness caused by certain environmental factors, or as severe as threatening to compromise the integrity of the ocular surface, and increasing susceptibility to infection and tissue necrosis.
Red eyes can be caused by many things ranging from dryness and allergy, to serious inflammatory disease, sometimes related to systemic illness.
This, usually inherited condition, which causes progressive thinning and distortion of the cornea (the "window" part of the eye,) presents itself initially as a subtle irregularity of that structure, and may progress from requiring special contact lens design to corneal cross-linking, and even transplantation of donor grafts. Keratoconus can sometimes be caused by years of wearing poorly fitting contact lenses and excessive eye rubbing.
Our doctors routinely diagnose and manage diabetic retinal disease, which is the leading cause of vision loss in this country. If you are diabetic, it is of the utmost importance that you be seen by the eye doctor and dilated yearly.
Although many enormous strides have been made, and continue to be made, in the treatment of macular degeneration, your safest bet is to have regular comprehensive eye examinations with the doctors at Arboretum Vision Care, to be certain of an early diagnosis, and preventative intervention with healthy lifestyle and nutritional advice. Our doctors are knowledgable and happy to share the very latest information in this important area of vision care.
Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve, characterized by slow, progressive damage of the nerve over time, and, in many cases, elevated intra-ocular pressure. There are many risk factors for glaucoma, chief among them are age, family history, ethnicity, pressure inside the eye, and corneal thickness. Glaucoma is generally treated with eye drops, although some recalcitrant forms require surgery. The doctors of Arboretum Vision Care are highly skilled in detecting signs of, and diagnosing glaucoma, as well as managing glaucoma.
Minor Eye Emergencies
All of our doctors at Arboretum Vision Care are licensed as Therapeutic Optometrists by the State of Texas, which means they diagnose, treat, and manage ocular diseases. Almost any type of “red eye” problem, foreign body removal, or minor injuries to the eye can be dealt with in our office.
